Baylor/OK State Stream of Conscious Blog

I am going to do things a little differently here tonight. I am starting off with recaps of the day and then I will be blogging during the game so I can post immediately after the game is over. Lets get to today's action.

LSU/A&M - I guess LSU read my blog, they ran the ball for over 35 minutes, around 300 yards and who would have thought that LSU defense would be locked and loaded for Aggie? Where has that defense been all year for the Tigers? After the Florida game I was thinking Will Muschamp might be heading back to Death Valley for a defensive co-ordinator job...I guess Chavis isn't gone yet.

Oregon/Arizona - I guess that whole head to head problem with Stanford in my 3 Point Process took care of itself today. I can't wait to re-run the numbers and see Stanford jump into the top 4 with 2 losses. Or does Baylor get in? Once again Oregon cracks when the pressure is on.

Stanford/Cal - no surprise here

Bama/Chattanooga - I guess the Tide wasn't looking ahead to Auburn while pitching a shut-out

FSU/Idaho - 80 points.....I have to say that again...80 points.....Holy Jameis Winston Batman

South Carolina/Coastal Carolina - 70 points for the Gamecocks.....maybe they get into the top 4 with a win over Clemson next week....will it be game of the week??

MSU/NW - The Spartans have a date with the Buckeyes for a trip to Pasadena

Wisconsin/Minn. - The Gophers got a wake-up call as the Badgers put them back into their hole.

Now it is time to play the waiting game. It is 15 minutes till 6pm in Colorado and the kick-off of Baylor/Oklahoma State. Nothing to do but check on my picks so far:

I missed LSU/A&M and the Oregon game and nailed everything else. 8-2 right now. Mizzou/Ole Miss hasn't started yet and the Sun Devils are beating UCLA right now. Arizona State/Michigan State in the Rose Bowl, how's that grab ya?

Time to check facebook. I knew Aaron would "get" my will muschamp comment. Thanks brother.

What the hell UCLA? Just throw it to the defensive end. Seriously, maybe we need to get comfortable with the Sun Devils in the Rose Bowl...

Hundley is over throwing receivers now. The Bruins need him if they want to have any chance of coming back in this game. Since Miles Jack changed from LB to RB, maybe a CB needs to play QB...

Herbstreit and Musburger here we go!!!

Turnovers are going to be key, the Cowboys don't have a great D but they are opportunistic, 19 INT's this year, #1 in the country. (I wrote that before Herbstreit said it btw).

Sure wish a certain somebody would get home from the grocery store and start cooking dinner. haha

I promise not to take any mushrooms while I am doing this stream of consciousness blog tonight.

Rainbow colored balls.

I think that's the title to an Eminem song isn't it?

Missouri is already up 7-0 on Ole Miss...and another pick is headed for flames.

I like the uniforms for both teams tonight. The white helmets and black jerseys for the Cowboys and the white jerseys with yellow shoulders, dark helmets and pants for Baylor, both better than anything Oregon has ever worn.

Game themes and main points are italicized after the fact. If you don't want to read it all, just read the italics.

Baylor wins the toss and receives! Get ahead and let that Bear defense tee on on Chelf. I like it.

Baylor starts at their 25 yard line. Why would Lane Kiffin not want Bryce Petty?!?  No wonder Kif got the axe.

4 wide, shot-gun, broken tackle, 8 yard pass
here come the running game with a wideout, Goodley, first down and the tempo is in full swing but an over-thrown pass.
Hit them fast and hit them hard Baylor.
Linwood is a beast and Norwood catches another pass. Is Baylor going faster tonight than against Texas Tech? I think so.
Good tackling by Ok St so far.
Ok State stretches out Linwood and forces him out for a loss on second down forcing 3rd and 13, listen to that crowd!!!
Good call on the incomplete pass to Goodley. Petty has got to stop hitting Goodley in the hands, he can't seem to handle a pass there. Good looking first drive ends in a punt to the Ok St 13 yard line.

Pitch play on the first play and good Baylor tackling.
More good tackling on second down to force 3rd and short.
Baylor had 3rd down problems last week on D, what happens here....first down Cowboys on a play-action bootleg. The Cowboys are already changing field position.
The Cowboys are running well early. Good holes. Desmond Roland is rolling. So who is going to physical tonight? Look at those Cowboys. They haven't thrown a pass yet on this drive and they are just moving along. 3rd and 1.....7 plays and all runs so far, play-action pass to the flat and GREAT tackle by Baylor, why would you throw now if you're not going deep? Time to go for it on 4th....Now they run it and Baylor was sitting and waiting for it. Turnover on downs. Bad play-calling by the Cowboys. Stop the running momentum with a short pass and then predictable on 4th down. So much for switching field position...Baylor has it at the 50....

If Dixon is hurt that could be huge.

Spending too much time typing, need to watch more football. Dixon will be back.

Wow, Baylor got a gift off of a deflection....lucky it wasn't a pick. WOW, fantastic play call on 3rd and 2 and Baylor blocks downfield like a team that is committed to the running game!! Petty could have walked into the endzone if he hadn't tripped. Ok St is stuffing the run at the goal-line...and then they took the ball away....come on Linwood, you have got to be smarter than that, you have one more play, you are no where near the goal line, don't stretch that ball out like that....Smart football is winning football and there is the first turnover of the night! Boom. Ok St 1 Baylor 0

Arizona State is getting closer and closer to a meeting with Stanford in the Pac12 Championship game, 35 points already with 9 minutes in the first half left...I am going to have to do a 3 Point Process on the Sun Devils...

Ok St from the 1 yard line. Is the evidence conclusive on the huge catch out of the endzone? What a throw by Chelf with 1 on 1 coverage outside. The ruling stands and it needed to. 29 yard pass play. Nice. Another huge pass play on 1 on 1 coverage off of play-action, I thought it was pass interference on the offense, but it was just good body control for Ok St and not so much for Baylor. Great play by Ok St. How do you have a delay of game at home?? Now 2nd and 19. Drive killer. They were at the Baylor 20. Stewart runs open over the middle of the fied, 18 yard gain, 3rd and 1 at the Baylor 11. Sealed the edge, Chelf runs for the first and more. First and Goal 5 yard line. Nice moves by Roland, good tackle, 3 yard gain. 2nd and goal...Staley walks into the endzone through a hole the size of...well the size of Texas....who is being more physical tonight? The answer is Oklahoma State so far, but Baylor started slow last week too, but this ain't Texas Tech. 7-0 Cowboys, 99 yards off of the turnover.

What's wrong with Petty? Another bad pass. Swing pass goes no where. 3rd down and 10, they CANNOT give this ball back to OK St on a 3 and out....Time-out is not a bad call here, this game could get ugly and they need to make sure they have the right play called. 5 wide, shotgun...false start...there are those damn Baylor penalties again....3rd and 15 from the 15....and the Cowboys get a sack....great coverage...there's the 3 and out, nothing but Cowboy momentum right now

Okay, now time to stop the drive by drive analysis and time for summaries.

Baylor needs to get some blitzes to the quarterback and shake up his timing. Chelf is way too comfortable and receivers are way too open. End of the first quarter.

Second play of the second quarter and Baylor gets a sack. Not that it mattered on the next play. Baylor's defense is way out of position on almost every play, the d line is getting man-handled, but show up on third down by blowing up that running play. Another 4th down play coming up and a penalty...wow....penalties might become a story tonight. And I didn't even mention the unsportsmanlike penalty the Cowboys got on this drive...dumb....just plain dumb...

Okay, Baylor needs to score here. They are playing with fire. They are one Petty trip and one stretched ball away from having scored. Be smarter and watch your feet.

Penalty watch: 5 yard substitution penalty on Ok St give Baylor another 3rd down play....and now Baylor has to waste another time out....the game seems to big for Baylor... what a defensive play by Ok St on 3rd down, they stayed home and strung that sweep out and stopped it, great discipline, speed, and tackling. Time to punt again.

Baylor's D finally makes a stand and forces a punt. Are they finally getting it together? Good tackle and stop on third down on that drive.

Petty is still throwing high....(8:26 in second)
Baylor got a good spot on that third down pass play, I believe the tackle was made a yard short of the sticks.
Just a thought, but Baylor struggled in man coverage on defense last week against Texas Tech too...
Petty is starting to make some throws now, why are they running ball on the last 2 plays? 3rd and 5 @ 6:51.
I HATE deep pass plays on third down. Another punt.

6:20 2nd Quarter
Seals with a huge gainer on first down, there wasn't a Baylor defender within 10 yards after the catch...
No pressure on Chelf, blitzes are being picked up, receivers are running free, 80 yards in a 1:52 and a touchdown. Way too easy for the Cowboys. 14-0 Ok St. If the Texas Tech game was any indicator then Baylor has Ok St right where they want them.
Chelf is 11 of 11....

Is this the same Ole Miss that played A&M close and beat LSU at home? They are down 14 to Missouri...

4:28 2nd Quarter Baylor Ball
At least the second time the Cowboy coverage has foiled a Baylor pass play, and then a huge sack with only a 4 man rush by the Cowboys. Who is playing more physical? And what might be a better question, who is playing more inspired football? Cowboys. I applaud Baylor for being a methodical team and not getting rattled, but sometimes you cannot underestimate emotion in a big football game. And if they get down 21-0 they better find some in a hurry.

2:56 2nd Qtr Cowboy Ball - terrible punt
And the first in-completion from Chelf gives the ball to Baylor.

Baylor kicks to open the second half, they need to score a touchdown on this drive. Period.

1:16 2nd Qtr Baylor Ball
And all it takes is a Cowboy DB to fall down and Fuller goes for 53 yards and they are almost to the red zone already. Now they are in the red zone...45 seconds before half, 1st and 10 at the Cowboy 20. Norwood dropped a TD pass....another huge coverage play by the Cowboys, now it's 3rd and 10....and good tackling forces 4th down and 2. 29 yard FG is good. 14-3. Opportunity lost.

Now it is time for bacon wrapped chicken for dinner and halftime. Baylor needs to get some fire on defense and on their offensive line. The play calling on offense has been okay, but Baylor is flat out getting out physicaled by the Cowboys right now. We are going to learn a lot about Baylor in this second half. Hats off to the Cowboy defense for being inspired and really causing some havok. Chelf looks awesome in the first half.

Check that, no halftime, it's time to see if UCLA can complete a HUGE comeback against the Sun Devils.

Not sure how I feel about this blogging while the game is on....I feel like I am missing too much of the line of scrimmage play, I have no idea how the blitz packages have been used tonight, how the qb's are being pressured, etc....maybe one of you kind readers will tell me how this is appealing to you?

This is why people need to follow me on twitter so I can tweet this stuff and still have absolutely no time to watch the game. HAHA.

And cheesy mashed potatoes with the chicken!!!

What a second half, only 3 points allowed to Arizona State so far and now UCLA is running it down their throats down 38-33.

HUGE defensive stand for Arizona State!  Wow, kept UCLA out of the endzone and then a MISSED FIELD GOAL!!!! WOW 4:45 to go 38-33....Sun Devils.  No prevent for Arizona State on the final drive, bringing the pressure all game. I love it. And it's Arizona State and Stanford for the Pac12 Championship.

Dinner is over, so is UCLA, back to Baylor.

Baylor will not score 61 points tonight.

First third down of the second half for Ok St on their first drive....and it's a touchdown. Man coverage is beat again. Tracy Moore, 56 yards, beat the CB. 21-3 Cowboys

13:11 3rd Q Baylor Ball
Reciever fell down after the catch or would still be running on the first play.
Overthrow on second throw....Petty just doesn't look sharp

Penalty watch: Pass interference on Ok St: First down. Good call.

Pass complete to Goodley...not a pretty pass, wr had to reach for it, and Baylor is stuffed on third down again. THIRD DOWNS ARE WON WITH EMOTION. Going on 4th, you have to do it here....option completely strung out and blown up. Not even close.

11:40 3 Q Ok St Ball
Flea flicker!!!!! GREAT play by the Baylor DB to knock it away
Two plays later and Moore makes a great jumping catch as the DB falls down, great under throw.
Then the pass to the flat and throw back to Chelf and it goes for huge yards!! Great blocking by the Cowboys!!! That looks like Ok St offensive football right there! 48 yards. Incredible play call and FANTASTIC execution!! Power football run with Staley, no doubt, Touchdown. 28-3 Cowboys and this one might be getting close to being over. Baylor played too flat for the 3rd straight week and they found a team with the talent and the passion to not fall down.

9:47 3 Q Baylor ball
Second play is another over throw by Petty.
FUMBLE!!! Second turnover goes to the Cowboys!!! I called this one at the start of the game! Cowboys 2, Baylor 0. Opportunistic defense and a high powered offense will win a lot of games.

If the Cowboys win this game I can't wait to run the 3 Point Process on them to see how high they get. This day is going to be a GREAT test of my grading system for these teams.

9:18 3 Q Ok St Ball
Baylor "forces" a 3 and out. WR looked open, Chelf missed him for the first.

7:30 3 Q Baylor ball
You cannot sleep on Baylor, 25 points for them is like 3 for most teams. Easy.
Petty slips again on his way to a first down...
You can't score points when you get beat by a 4 man rush around the edge and give up a sack.
Another WIDE throw from Petty...he is just out of synch completely. Ok St has made some plays, but even when their is play to be made Baylor can't seem to make it.
The pressure from Ok St keeps Baylor throwing it short, been happening all night. 4th and 9.....another HIGH throw....

5:15 3 Q Ok St ball
Can't run outside on either of these defenses. 3 and out.

4:20 3 Q Baylor ball
Another high throw from Petty and Musburger is just now noticing....
Another huge rush from Ok St 4 man line, but Petty gets out and is able to throw downfield for a first.
3:22 3 Q Baylor ball
Overthrow by Petty when an underthrow would have got a completion...
Big rush, good coverage, Petty rolls, throws deep to Goodley and great body control, jump, catch, touchdown 40 yards...BUT the WR went out of bounds so illegal touching....SMART FOOTBALL?? BAYLOR PENALTIES, and Goodley always seems to dropping a ball...literally and figuratively...
Incomplete on 3rd down and now 4th and 10, going again....Petty met with WOOD on his run for a first, give that ball back to the Cowboys

2:10 3 Q Ok St ball
Tackles starting to be broke by Smith, huge hole, huge gain 29 yard
So it looks like Ok St knows exactly where the Baylor defenders are going to be and they run where they ain't. Amazing execution on offense by the Cowboys. Huge holes when running, no defenders anywhere. The double reverse pass was nice too. Nice.
35-3 Cowboys

Start of the 4th Quarter Baylor ball
The Cowboys have taken Levi Norwood completely out of this game.
Another high throw from Petty? Yes please. All of these I think have been incomplete.

Sorry if there are any punctuation or grammatical errors this is live and in the moment and I type it how I think it....oh my Goodley scored a touchdown on 1on1 coverage. Petty 22 of 42 tonight....that's a HIGH incompletion rate. 35-10 Cowboys.

14:04 4 Q Ok St ball
So the offense scores and the Baylor defense comes up with a stop. Only their second of the game. No Ok St bungle, the defense won this time.

12:32 4 Q Baylor ball
Partially blocked punt and Baylor has GREAT field position. 46 yard line of Ok St.

And Ole Miss folds against Missouri. Picks = #crashandburn

Some of the best protection Petty has had all night and the ball goes....where the WR isn't but there is a flag...was that ball catchable? Okay, he grabbed the WR. PENALTY on Ok St results in first down.
Baylor has actually done a really good job of limiting their penalties tonight, Ok St has more.
Norwood finally makes a catch down to the 7 yard line!!! Wow, that's Norwood's 5th catch..what a non-factor tonight.
3rd and goal, Ok St is holding again...bad snap.....Petty can't get it....Cowboys pick it up and it's all the way the other way for a touchdown....3rd turnover, 14th point off of a turnover....and this one is over.
Musburger nailed it, that's 2 fumbles inside the 5 yard line for Baylor...
Ok St 3 takeaways tonight
42-10 Cowboys.

That's all folks. This game is over and I am posting!

Fantastic job to the Cowboys tonight. They played the more physical game, they forced the turnovers, and showed real fire and passion on defense. Baylor came out too flat and the Cowboys proved to be too talented and too committed to be over-come. Chelf was efficient and accurate, and Petty was all over the place. The line of scrimmage went to the Cowboys on both sides of the ball. Baylor left some plays on the field, but they were left on the field because I believe they were rattled by the Cowboy defense. Amazing, I questioned the play calling on the Cowboy offense early, but they proved to have a great plan that was efficient and completely kept the Baylor defense off-balance.

I can't wait to see how my 3 Point Process will process all the changes from this weekend! I'll be back on Sunday with my new top 4 and my opinion on the BCS.
